THE MURAL OF DMX UNVEILED IN RAPPER’S HOMETOWN OF YONKERS

In Yonkers, New York, a DMX mural has been painted.

The mural of the late rapper, actual name Earl Simmons, who died of a heart attack in April this year, was painted by artist Floyd Simmons and revealed by Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano last week.

The mural, which is 35 by 22 feet and includes lyrics from some of DMX’s songs, including ‘Look Thru My Eyes’ and ‘School Street,’ is painted on a wall near Calcagno Homes on School Street, the housing complex where he once lived. Members of Ruff Ryders and Def Jam Records, as well as Simmons’ fiancée Desiree Lindstrom, were in attendance during the mural unveiling.

Earl “DMX” Simmons’ Celebration of Life took place earlier this year at the Barclay Centre in Brooklyn, New York. The livestreamed memorial service came after a private funeral service for family and friends, and featured performances by Eve, Nas, and Swizz Beatz, as well as Kanye West and his Sunday Service choir. Ahead of the event, West teamed up with fashion house Balenciaga as Yeezy to design a $200 fundraising t-shirt for DMX’s family.
