Patchouli Brothers, a group of producers and DJs based in Toronto, have released the first works on their own label, Dodo Records.
Two edits of singer Dr. Mary Mundy’s underground songs, ‘Love Me Love Me’ and ‘Love Is Gone,’ are included in the release.
Despite the fact that Dodo Records is not solely an edits label, the brothers were given the opportunity to collaborate with Mundy on these edits in order to highlight her soulful, underground disco selection for the label’s premiere.
Due to the duo’s edit’s success at smaller parties, the original goal was to urge Mundy to unleash her disco track ‘Love Me Love Me,’ which they had been playing at parties for years in their DJ sets. Mundy did mention her admiration for her 1982 song ‘Love Is Gone,’ which led to the brothers rewriting both ‘Love Me Love Me’ and ‘Love Is Gone.’
Patchouli Brothers’ latest album features a mix of underground disco, soul, and R&B, while retaining the original energy put into the single by Dr Mundy, who still sings today as a university professor.
