As part of the 40th-anniversary celebration of their 1981 debut, “Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash,” The Replacements have unveiled a new animated music video for “Shutup.”
The video blends Paul Westerberg’s snarky 85-second anthem with animated scenes that serve as the perfect complement to his incredibly literal and self-referential lyrics. The video for “Shutup,” which was created by Pat Moriarity and Seth Zeichner, includes Easter eggs such as nods to the pioneering Twin Cities punk band Suicide Commandos and late guitarist Bob Stinson’s pre-Mats band Dogbreath.
The Replacements will issue a box set to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Sorry Ma, which will include previously unavailable material such as the band’s early recordings, alternate mixes, outtakes, and a concert recording from 1981. Rare images and liner notes by The Replacements biographer Bob Mehr are also included on the four-CD/one-vinyl LP. On October 22nd, it will be released.
