The War on Drugs have shared a new single entitled “Living Proof” off their forthcoming album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore, which will be released on October 29th through Atlantic Records.
Adam Granduciel of War on Drugs sings beautifully over a quick acoustic strum on “Living Proof.” Piano, ethereal synths, and spare percussion help create the track, but the song’s apex is more of an exhale into a gentle guitar solo than an explosion.
The music video for “Living Proof,” directed by Emmett Malloy, is out now. Granduciel sings the song and wanders about the gorgeous surroundings of Panoramic studio in Stinson Beach, California, in this 16mm film.
Following 2017’s widely acclaimed A Deeper Understanding, which won the Grammy for Best Rock Album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore is the War on Drugs’ first album in four years. The War on Drugs began work on the record shortly after winning the Grammy in 2018, with Granduciel, bassist Dave Hartley, and multi-instrumentalist Anthony LaMarca retreating to a studio in upstate New York where they played and cut demos while working outside of their typical duties on stage.
The War on Drugs worked on the album at seven studios throughout the world over the following three years, including famous venues like Electric Lady in New York and Sound City in Los Angeles. Granduciel collaborated extensively with co-producer/engineer Shawn Everett on the record.
In support of I Don’t Live Here Anymore, The War on Drugs have also planned a North American tour for 2022. The tour begins on January 19th in Austin, Texas, and concludes on February 26th in Los Angeles. The War on Drugs website will begin selling tickets on July 23rd at 10 a.m. local time.
