Prince’s 1986 album, previously unreleased, is slated to be released for the first time via Third Man Records.
The album was recorded by the late musician as Camille, an alter ego with whom the album shared a title. However, he scrapped the idea shortly after test pressings of the finished record were made.
Third Man co-founder Ben Blackwell stated in a new interview with Mojo that the label will make sure the record gets released.
The eight songs on the album have all been reissued in some way over the years, but never in the same packaging, and several of them have proven difficult to find since their initial release.
‘Housequake,’ ‘Strange Relationship,’ and ‘If I Was Your Girlfriend’ were all included on the famous album ‘Sign O’ The Times,’ while ‘Feel U Up’ was issued as the B-side of the ‘Batman’ song ‘Partyman.’ ‘If I Was Your Girlfriend’ had a B-side called ‘Shockadelica,’ while ‘Good Love’ was featured on the soundtrack for ‘Bright Lights, Big City.’
‘Rockhard In A Funky Place,’ which originally featured on ‘The Black Album,’ and ‘Rebirth Of The Flesh,’ which was just included in the 2020 super deluxe reissue of ‘Sign O’ The Times,’ are the other two tracks.
There is currently no official release date for Camille’s complete release.
A rare promo cassette tape of Prince’s ‘The Black Album’ was auctioned off earlier this year.
‘Welcome 2 America,’ another previously unreleased Prince album, was also released for the first time last year.
