Virgil Abloh, the renowned fashion designer, DJ, and founder of Off-White, has passed away at the age of 41.
Abloh, the artistic director of the fashion firm Louis Vuitton, died after a long battle with cancer, according to an official statement released yesterday (November 28th).
Abloh was born in September 1980 in Rockford, Illinois, to Ghanaian parents. He became a highly prominent person in the fashion business after studying architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology and worked as creative director for Kanye West and Jay-Z’s ‘Watch The Throne’ campaign and also the DONDA creative agency.
Abloh created the high-end streetwear brand Off-White in 2013, collaborating with brands such as IKEA and Nike. Abloh was appointed the new artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear in 2018.
Abloh was also a well-known DJ on the global scene, having performed at venues and festivals such as Tomorrowland, H Ibiza, fabric, Circoloco, and others. Abloh and Boys Noize collaborated on the track ‘ORVNGE’ in 2018.
Abloh developed a transparent model of Pioneer’s CDJ-2000NXS2 and DJM-900NXS2 in partnership with Pioneer DJ in 2019, which was presented at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art. Off-White teamed up with Pioneer once again earlier this year, delivering the DDJ-1000-OW, a limited-edition controller.
