The 23rd of May has been declared as Born This Way Day in West Hollywood. The new holiday commemorates the tenth anniversary of Lady Gaga’s album Born This Way, which was released in 2011.
Mayor Lindsey P. Horvath awarded Gaga with a key to the city at the in-person ceremony on Sunday. The album title was painted out in colours resembling the trans pride flag and the gay pride flag in a public mural on Robertson Boulevard as a tribute to the LGBTQIA+ community.
Gaga’s follow-up to her debut The Fame and EP The Fame Monster was “Born This Way.” The uplifting single “Born This Way,” which has now become an essential LGBT pride anthem, opened the album. The album was also named on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. She delivered her sixth album Chromatica a year ago this week, which included the Grammy-winning Ariana Grande collaboration “Rain on Me.”
