Insane Clown Posse, hip-hop’s horrorcore masters, are back with a new track, “Wretched,” just in time for peak spooky season. Yum Yum Bedlam, the band’s next album, is planned to be released on Halloween, October 31st, under the group’s own Psychopathic Records.
In “Wretched,” ICP’s Violent J delves into the vile depths of the world’s most wicked people.
Violent J told Rolling Stone that the single was inspired by a couple of podcast episodes ICP created for their Patreon called Descent into the Abyss of Evil, which addressed some of history’s most wicked figures, as the title suggests.
ICP are both pioneers and learners of horrorcore of all types, with Violent J citing a long list of influences ranging from Alice Cooper to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” (“At the time, that scared kids!”) to hip-hop superstars like Prince Johnny C of the Geto Boys and fellow Detroit rapper Esham.
Despite this, especially in light of the group’s forthcoming Halloween release, “Yum Yum Bedlam,” Violent J strongly avoids horror films and anything particularly terrifying.
Yum Yum Bedlam is ICP’s 17th studio album and their first since Fearless Fred Fury in 2019. Yum Yum Bedlam is ICP lore’s 17th studio album and the band’s first since 2019’s Fearless Fred Fury. Yum Yum Bedlam is also the fifth Joker’s Card in ICP’s Second Joker Card Deck, as well as the first female Joker’s Card the group has ever done.
