Surya Sen, a rising rap sensation from North London, has just dropped his debut compilation entitled ‘At What Cost.’
Sen’s debut full-length record is inspired by his experiences as a second-generation British Bengali, his life in London, and his club sphere experiences.
Sen’s thirteen-track project, shared via SKINT Records, showcases his musical ability and is jam-packed with house-infused rap influenced by the cultural history of Sen.
The record’s storyline follows Sen on a post-lockdown night out in the city, his experiences, his heightened emotions and narrates the friendship stories.
The Bengali-infused tune ‘Buccho Ni Ba Bhai’, cherished single ‘Earn It’, and the explosive single ‘Jessica’ are the highlights. On his current album, he collaborates with Bone Slim, Fela.Mi, and Di-Vincent.
Along with the album’s release, Surya unveils an accompanying visual for the single ‘Buccho Ni Ba Bhai’, the first of a three-part video series that will accompany ‘At What Cost.’
This film discusses gentrification in East London, a significant issue that is wreaking havoc on the city’s Bengali populations.
