JIM SEALS, A HALF OF SOFT ROCK DUO SEALS AND CROFTS, DIED AT 80

Jim Seals of the U.S. soft rock duo Seals and Crofts died at the age of 80. In the late 1960s, he formed a band named outfit with Dash Crofts. The duo made breezy pop-rock records during their two tours in 1980.

Seals and Crofts achieved the peak of their career in the 1970s, during this time, they became popular for easy-going pop-rock songs. Their first big hit “Summer Breeze,” came in 1972, which last as an illustration of era’s soft-rock styles.

Seals and Croft were both born in Texas and met each other for the first time while working for a local band. Later, they moved to California and joined a group named “Dawnbreakers.” In 1961, the first success came for Seals when he recorded the song “It’s Never Too Late” for Brenda Lee.

Seals and Crofts decided to perform as a duo and released their first album, Seals and Crofts in 1969. In 1972, their third album, “Summer Breeze” charted at No. 7 with its title track. The next album “Diamond Girl’ was released in 1973. The title track was again a big hit and reached no. 4. Their success continued throughout the 1970s but got a pause in 1980 after their album The Longest Ride.

Jim’s faith in Bahá’í religion has a significant influence on his career. Jim and Crofts again joined each other for a reunion in the early 1990s and released an album “Traces’ in 2004.
