Terrence “Punch” Henderson is going through his third reinvention. Punch, a rapper, director, and president of independent label Top Dawg Entertainment described this moment as doing something in the music business that he’s never done before. After guiding the Black Hippy group — Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul — to solo success and establishing SZA as a superstar, he’s hoping to repeat his former success with his latest project: the hip-hop collective A Room Full of Mirrors.
ARFoM features Punch as the project’s quarterback, as well as skilled lyricists Daylyt, Nick Grant, Lyric Michelle, Ichiban Don, Billymaree, Jrias Law, Earlee Riser, and producer Hari.
Each artist gets their opportunity to shine on the collective’s upcoming visual EP, which is set to drop on December 3rd. The video (named Money Bags) is inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s legendary heist film Reservoir Dogs from 1992. It shows the collective getting ready for a robbery and putting it down lyrically in front of the camera.
Punch spoke with Billboard a few days after hosting an intimate screening of Money Bags in Compton, Calif., to explore the collective’s formation, the cinematic inspiration for the EP, and TDE’s future.
