ANNIE MAC IS GETTING RETIRE FROM RADIO 1 AFTER 17 YEARS

After 17 years on BBC Radio 1, Annie Mac is stepping down. The news was revealed by the veteran broadcaster via a statement on Twitter and on air on April 20.

Annie is best known for her weeknight music programme, which airs between 6 and 8 p.m. Until Annie Mac’s Mashup began on Thursday nights in 2004, she worked as a broadcast assistant. Her show was shifted to Friday, where she helped to set the soundtrack for her listeners’ weekend.

She also mentioned that she was leaving to spend more time with her children and to create more podcasts and fiction. Her podcast Changes explores how we deal with change in our lives, and her debut novel Mother Mother, set to be published in May, is a coming-of-age story regarding addiction.

Clara Amfo, who will take over as host in September 2021, will host her last show on July 30. Annie Mac wrapped up by saying she would return to radio broadcasting when the time is right.
