Along with record executive Jimmy Iovine, Dr. Dre is launching a new high school in Los Angeles.
The Beats co-founders and the Los Angeles Unified School District have formed a new partnership to build an educational facility in South Los Angeles.
When it opens in autumn 2022, it will be known as ‘Regional High School #1’ until an official name is chosen. It will be located on the Audubon Middle School premises and will have a capacity of 124 pupils. In the future, this might be expanded to 250 students.
This year celebrates the 30th anniversary of Death Row Records, the seminal label founded by Dre, Suge Knight, The D.O.C., and Dick Griffey. The soundtrack to ‘Above The Rim’ will be reissued on cassette as part of the celebrations. The brand was reportedly sold for $600 million in March as part of the parent company Entertainment One’s bigger sale. Dre was named the highest-paid musician of the decade by Forbes magazine in 2019.
