The Killers and Bruce Springsteen Collaborated on the Remake for ‘A Dustland Fairytale’

The Killers have teamed up with Bruce Springsteen to create a new rendition of “A Dustland Fairytale,” which first appeared on the band’s 2008 album Day & Age.

Brandon Flowers, the vocalist of the Killers, revealed in an e-mail interview with Rolling Stone that the initial intent was to perform the song live.

Brandon Flowers has long mentioned Bruce Springsteen as a major influence, yet the Killers were chastised in 2006 when some critics said their album Sam’s Town drew too much from his work. Flowers was taken aback by Springsteen’s reaction when he first met him.

The Killers were scheduled to perform at the Pinkpop festival in Landgraaf, Netherlands, the following year, shortly before Springsteen. Flowers appeared near the end of Springsteen’s set to sing “Thunder Road.”

Flowers finally had the opportunity to cut a song with Springsteen 12 years after that night in the Netherlands.
