Energy 52’s Ibiza trance hit, “Cafe Del Mar,” has been remixed by Paul van Dyk.
The song was first unveiled in 1993 and was named after the famed White Island sunset hangout, but it wasn’t until later in the decade that it gained widespread popularity. Although Marco V (2002), deadmau5 (2008), and Tale of Us (2018) are all notable in their own right, the seminal Three ‘N One (1997) and Nalin & Kane (1998) versions are undoubtedly the most well-known.
Now, van Dyk has returned to the ecstatic epic with two new remixes, dubbed ‘XOXO’ and ‘Shine,’ respectively. The latter is geared firmly towards peak time club nights, borrowing its title from the Ibiza trance session of the same name, and emphasises the melodic and flowing, as well as the high energy parts of the song.
The restored recordings also give the seminal Superstition Records imprint a fresh lease on life, as it relaunches with this release. It was one of the most important hard house, trance, and tech labels of its period, and it ran from 1993 until 2003. Van Dyk released his tenth album, ‘Guiding Light,’ last year, along with the ambient album ‘Escape Reality.’
