THIS WEEKEND, THE MF DOOM STREET-NAMING CEREMONY WILL TAKE PLACE

This weekend, an MF DOOM street-naming ceremony will be held to honor the renowned rapper and producer.

Long Beach, New York, Boulevard runs from Long Beach Boulevard to Riverside Boulevard where the artist and his brother brought up. On Saturday, July 31, 2021, at 2 p.m. EST, it will be renamed ‘KMD – MF DOOM Way.’

DOOM, actual name Daniel Dumile, and the hip hop group KMD, which he co-founded in the 1990s with his brother, Dingilizwe ‘DJ Subroc’ Dumile, who died in 1993, are referenced in the new address. Professor, public and social activist, and former classmate Dr. Patrick C. Graham, as well as the ‘KMD – MF DOOM Way Committee,’ chaired by former-KMD dancer Jason ‘J-Quest the Boogieman’ Massey, spearheaded the campaign.

MF DOOM died on October 31, 2021, at the age of 49, although the news was not released until New Year’s Eve. Posthumous releases include the joint album ‘Super What?’ with Czarface and a remix of The Avalanches’ ‘Tonight May Have to Last Me All My Life’. DOOM is also featured in the new book ‘From Boom to Trap,’ which honours hip hop’s most significant figures.
