Flying Lotus has unveiled two new tracks, “Black Gold” and “Between Memories,” that was written by him for the forthcoming Netflix anime series Yasuke, which premieres on April 29th.
The show’s opening theme, “Black Gold,” features Thundercat and captures a mysterious atmosphere with its banging drums and winding synths. Meanwhile, “Between Memories” will play over Yasuke’s closing credits. It has a much more subdued rhythm and Niki Randa’s mesmerising blend of interlocking vocal lines.
Instrumental versions of “Black Gold” and “Between Memories” have also been released by Flying Lotus.
Yasuke is a six-episode animation series featuring LaKeith Stanfield and directed by LeSean Thomas. Stanfield plays Yasuke, an African-American samurai warrior who navigates an alternate universe feudal Japan.
Flamagra, Flying Lotus’ most recent studio album, was released in 2019.
