H.E.R. has unveiled a new video for her track “Fight for You,” which is featured on the Judas and the Black Messiah soundtrack.
The video sets the singer’s elegant soul protest song with a brief but powerful rundown of the Black Panther Party’s history and its leader, Fred Hampton. The video mixes archival footage with scenes from Judas and the Black Messiah to examine the work of the Black Panthers in their communities, Hampton’s rise to the chairmanship, the increased scrutiny of the police and FBI, and how Hampton’s assassination was precipitated by the deception of informant William O’Neal.
The song “Fight for You” was recently nominated for this year’s Oscar as Best Original Song. The song is featured in the film’s end credits and on the album Judas and the Black Messiah: The Inspired Album, which features Nas, A$AP Rocky, Nipsey Hussle, Jay-Z, and others.
Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield star in Judas and the Black Messiah, which is nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor.
