HELENA HAUFF, RYUICHI SAKAMOTO, JULIANNA BARWICK, AND LARAAJI ARE INVOLVED IN THE LATEST COLDCUT AMBIENT COMPILATION.

A new Coldcut Ambient collection containing a slew of excellent production names will be released on November 19th via the acclaimed duo’s Ahead of Our Time imprint, which was revived as a Ninja Tune imprint in 2016.

The credits, which cover 30 tracks on the internet version and 17 on the vinyl edition, include a bevy of well-known studio heads. Ryuichi Sakamoto, Helena Hauff, Julianna Barwick, Laraaji, Sigur Rós, Imogen Heap, Suzanne Ciani, Steve Roach, ANNA, and Skee Mask are among those who have performed.
Coldcut also contributed a song to the album, ‘The Fire Burns Out.’ The duo also mixed the whole collection with Mixmaster Morris, with the ‘@0 Mix’ appearing on both digital and CD editions.
50% of net profit will be donated to organization CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), Mind, and Black Minds Matter.
Coldcut’s Matt Black explained, ‘@0’ refers to the liminal condition he encountered many times when his mental and emotional stability was shaky and it seemed like he was balancing on a zero axis on the verge of depression. Ambient music opens space with its soft fascination, subtly raising the energy, helping to avoid that downward spiral and navigate slowly up and out.
A trilogy of EPs will also be released as part of the project. ‘EP1’, which is currently available, includes Ciani’s ‘Morning Spring’ and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s ‘Mt. Baker.’ The second disc includes ‘The Drift Home’ by Roach and ‘Beethoven 250’ from A Winged History For The Sullen. In the most recent part, a new live recording of Sakamoto’s 1999 epic, ‘Aqua,’ coexists with James Heather’s ‘And She Same Home.’
The news comes after a particularly successful year for Ninja Tune. Last month, the label released the first album of famed South Korean musician Park Hye Jin, which followed the release of The Bug’s first album in seven years. Throughout 2021, the camp has also held well-received appearances by India Jordan, DJ Seinfeld, and TSHA.
