In a New Lyric Video, Serj Tankian Compares Holy Wars to “Your Mom”

On “Your Mom,” a track from Serj Tankian’s latest Elasticity EP, he mocks would-be martyrs and jihadists fighting in the name of religion. In a new lyric video, he emphasises the cartoonish side of the song.

Tankian rolls his eyes dramatically and lifts his eyebrows as he sings about “radical greed” and “despicable fools” in between animations of soldiers holding weapons and karate-kicking moms. He laughs at the notion that jihadists believe they will be given 72 virgins after they die at the end of the video.

Tankian’s sarcasm and animator D.S. Bradford’s tongue-in-cheek visuals make the song sound lighthearted despite the serious subject matter.

Tankian earlier released videos for the songs “Electric Yerevan” and “Elasticity” from Elasticity. In other news about the singer, the System of a Down frontman’s dual careers in music and politics became the subject of a recent documentary, Truth to Power.
