JAY-Z HAS BECOME THE MOST GRAMMY-NOMINATED ARTIST IN HISTORY

Following the announcement of musicians in contention for awards at the 2022 event, Jay-Z has become the most Grammy-nominated artist of all time.

Three nominations have been given to the rapper, songwriter, record executive, and media mogul for collaborations and appearances with Kanye West and the late DMX. This takes his career total to 83 nominations and 23 victories, surpassing Quincy Jones’s record of 80 nominations and 28 wins.

Beyoncé, Jay-Z’s wife, had been tied for second place, but Paul McCartney’s two nominations for 2022 solidify his position as the solo second runner, having made shortlists 81 times. Stevie Wonder and classical conductor Georg Solti are tied for fifth place with 74 nominations each, while movie composers Henry Mancini and John Williams are tied for sixth place with 72 nominations each.

According to Variety, Jay-Z was nominated for a Grammy Award for the first time in 1999 and has since appeared in 18 of the 22 editions. This year’s ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on January 31, 2022, and will have a number of modifications, including the addition of an “inclusion rider” and two new categories, Msica Urbana Album and Global Music Performance, both centred on Latin urban music.

Jay-Z was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year.
