Morgan Wallen is back with a heartfelt new song about his mother.
The embattled 28-year-old country music artist, who was caught on video earlier this year using the N-word, published a video of himself playing the unreleased track “Thought You Should Know” on Instagram on Saturday (May 22).
Wallen quietly picks away at his guitar in the three-minute song, questioning some of the “bad decisions” he’s made in life.
However, in mid-May, Wallen performed “Whiskey Glasses” and “Wasted on You” at Kid Rock’s Nashville honky tonk, marking his first performance since being caught uttering the racial slur.
From being arrested at Rock’s bar in March 2020 to getting ejected from his Saturday Night Live slot in October for violating COVID safety rules prior to his appearance, the country singer has spent the previous year engulfed in scandal. After the video of Wallen using the N-word, his music was taken off the radio, deleted from official playlists, and his booking agency dropped him. Big Loud, his record label, also put a stop to his “recording contract indefinitely.”
Despite a difficult year, Wallen has maintained a strong presence on the Billboard charts.
