MORITZ VON OSWALD TRIO HAS RELEASED A NEW ALBUM CALLED ‘DISSENT’

The Moritz von Oswald Trio has announced the release of their latest album, Dissent, on Modern Recordings on August 6, their first in nearly five years.

For the new iteration of the trio, Von Oswald has joined forces with Detroit’s Laurel Halo and Heinrich Köbberling, with the album alternating between dance music, jazz, noise, and techno.

The album was made up of a collection of edited down, long-form jams that were recorded in Berlin between November and December 2020. Throughout the record, the experimental sound world is explored, with free drums complimented by more dark, electronic instrumentation.

It follows up on 2015’s ‘Sounding Lines’ with a more explorative and experimental effort, while staying true to its jazz roots.

Moritz von Oswald is known for his contributions to electronic music, and the Moritz von Oswald trio focuses on more improvisational music. Through a series of early 1990s collaborations with artists such as Juan Atkins and Jeff Mills, Von Oswald was also instrumental in establishing the Berlin-Detroit connection.
