NIGO has been quite active. The beloved fashion icon released the second track from his forthcoming album, “I Know NIGO,” first thing Friday (Feb. 18). The song, “Want It Bad,” stars Kid Cudi and was announced on the runway during NIGO’s debut as artistic director of KENZO at Paris Fashion Week in January.
NIGO shared a video of himself and Cudi racing around a city at night and partying with pals on his Instagram account on Tuesday. He tagged longtime colleague and friend “Pharrell,” who is also appearing on the next album, in the video. The 51-year-old Japanese tastemaker’s first solo album since 2000’s Ape Sounds will be I Know NIGO. At the time, the now-fashion-icon had a far smaller fan base, one that was not yet connected to his present A-list fans who had discovered him through his 1993 brand, “A Bathing Ape.”
A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi, Tyler, the Creator, Pusha T, and the Teriyaki Boyz (well known as the voice behind the Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift theme song), among others, will appear on I Know NIGO.
NIGO confirmed his agreement to Steven Victor’s Victor Victor Worldwide, a division of Republic Records/Universal Music Group, in February 2021. Victor claims that NIGO initially only decided to produce a two-song EP.
