SHAQUILLE O’NEAL & FREAKY JOIN FOR LATEST DUBSTEP SINGLE ‘BACKBREAKER’

Shaquille O’Neal, the NBA player who made his DJ debut at TomorrowWorld and released his first self-produced track ‘My Squad is LIT’ in 2015, is now branching out beyond EDM and into the world of dubstep.

Shaq – AKA DJ Diesel – has released his latest single, ‘BACKBREAKER,’ in collaboration with fellow producer FREAKY, after the two met at bass music festival Lost Lands and brainstormed the idea.

‘BACKBREAKER,’ a three-minute dubstep single released by Subsidia Records, returning to the early 10s Americanised sound termed ‘brostep.’

After dabbling in EDM, Shaq is now branching out in new directions, having collaborated with big names in the US including Steve Aoki, Skrillex, and Diplo.

In 2015, the former NBA star debuted as a producer, though he afterward wanted to shed the title of “celebrity DJ” and establish himself as a renowned DJ.

Shaq’s musical abilities aren’t limited to DJing; his first of four rap EPs, ‘Shaq Diesel,’ went platinum in the early 1990s. In previous interviews, the former Lakers player has also mentioned working with The Notorious B.I.G around the same time.
