On “Desert High,” Billy Gibbons Pays Tribute to Jim Morrison and Gram Parsons

In the video for “Desert High,” the new single from ZZ Top’s forthcoming album Hardware, Billy Gibbons remembers Jim Morrison and Gram Parsons while driving around Joshua Tree.

Gibbons sings and talks about Morrison on the song, as well as paying tribute to “Gram,” the Flying Burrito Brothers singer who died in a hotel room in Joshua Tree.

Gibbons previously unveiled “West Coast Junkie” from Hardware, which is set to be released on June 4th and is currently available for preorder. The album was recorded at Escape Studios in the high desert with guitarist Austin Hanks and Matt Sorum, the former Guns N’ Roses drummer, who also co-produced the Hardware. The album’s title is derived from Joe Hardy’s nickname, a former ZZ Top collaborator who died in 2019. Gibbons’ third solo album, Hardware, is his first since 2018’s The Big Bad Blues.
