The Black Keys tease their new album “Delta Kream”

On the tenth studio album, Delta Kream, the Black Keys return to the blues songs that formed their early years.

Over 11 tracks, Auerbach and Keys drummer Patrick Carney pay homage to bluesmen including R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, and Fred McDowell, recorded in Nashville at the studio of Black Keys singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach. Delta Kream, the Black Keys’ follow-up to their 2019 album Let’s Rock, will be unveiled on Nonesuch Records on May 14th.

The band teases the album with the single “Crawling Kingsnake,” an ominous, swaggering slice of Hill Country blues produced by John Lee Hooker and first introduced by Auerbach in a later Kimbrough rendition.

On Delta Kream, guitarist Kenny Brown and bassist Eric Deaton, both former Burnside and Kimbrough sidemen, join Auerbach and Carney. Ray Jacildo, a percussionist Sam Bacco, and organist, also feature.

Delta Kream includes a new recording of “Do the Romp,” which the Black Keys first recorded (as “Do the Rump”) for their 2002 debut, The Big Come-Up, alongside songs like “Crawling Kingsnake” and “Going Down South.”
