The Flaming Lips’ New Year’s Eve gigs for 2021 have been announced. On December 30th and 31st, the Oklahoma City psych-rock band will perform at the Caverns in Pelham, Tennessee.
The shows, which go on sale at 11 a.m. CT on July 13th, will be vocalist Wayne Coyne and the Flaming Lips’ first visit to the underground natural amphitheater since New Year’s Eve 2018. During the show, the group launched confetti-filled balloons that were pierced by the cave’s jagged ceiling.
The news of the Flaming Lips’ New Year’s concerts comes at the end of an unpredictable year for the Caverns, which had to transfer shows above ground to a hastily constructed amphitheater during the pandemic. Jason Isbell performed four socially distant events at the outdoor venue in 2020, while Margo Price performed a similar show recently.
In addition to the Lips’ shows, Umphrey’s McGee, the Mavericks, and Bruce Hornsby will perform at the Caverns in 2021. In May, the Flaming Lips declared their 2021-2022 tour, which will begin on August 20th in Ogden, Utah.
