The opening of Enmarket Arena in Savannah is delayed due to problems with COVID-19

The inauguration of Savannah’s new 9,500-seat sports and entertainment facility, which was scheduled for mid-January, has been postponed, with city authorities blaming the coronavirus and supply chain issues.

The $140 million Enmarket Arena was supposed to be opened last week with Earth, Wind, and Fire concerts on Thursday and Riley Green’s show on Friday. However, the facility is still under construction, therefore both events have been rescheduled for early February.

In September 2019, builders began work on the new arena on Savannah’s westside, however, plans for the site began roughly 20 years earlier.

The mayor stated that when the opening date was set in January last year, local officials “over anticipated.”

Mayor Van Johnson explained to reporters that even though it is a big disappointment that they have to wait a little longer, safety is a big necessity and so that shouldn’t be overlooked.
