Chris Bailey, the founder vocalist, and lyricist of the Saints, an influential Australian punk rock band, has passed away. The news was shared on social media by the Saints, who said he passed away on Saturday, April 9.
Bailey was born in Belfast, and his parents moved to Brisbane, Australia, when he was a child. In the early 1970s, he created the Saints with Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay. The band’s debut album (I’m) Stranded was released in 1977, following the success of the track “(I’m) Stranded” in 1976. It was quickly followed by Prehistoric Sounds and Eternally Yours, both released in 1978.
Bailey was the sole constant member of the Saints’ rotating lineup throughout their career, which included shows following their final record, 2012’s King of the Sun.
