The Tragically Hip’s Video for “Ouch” Is Inspired by “Twin Peaks”

The Tragically Hip have released a new video for the opener “Ouch” following the release of their surprise, recently uncovered EP Saskadelphia.

The Twin Peaks-inspired “Ouch” video, which stars actor Jay Baruchel and Canadian TV personality Rick Mercer, takes place in a roadside bar on the outskirts of “Saskadelphia,” where Baruchel’s biker takes a shot of a mystery booze that causes him to break out of his skin.

Sara Besso directed the video, with Rebecca-Jo Dunham-Baruchel, the actor’s wife, playing the bartender’s role.

Fans are invited to post what they uncover on social media in the “Ouch” video, which includes upwards of 30 Easter Eggs culled from the Tragically Hip’s legacy.

When the Tragically Hip’s 1991 album Road Apples was edited down from a double album to a single disc, six unreleased tracks were left off. The six tracks were first thought to have been lost in the Universal lot fire before being discovered in the possession of the band’s Canadian label, as the band announced in May.

Gordon Downie, the band’s frontman, died of brain cancer in 2017.
