Tyler, the Creator Released ‘Lumberjack,’ a New Quick-Hit Song

Tyler, the Creator has shared a new song called “Lumberjack,” as well as a video directed by his Wolf Haley alias.

Tyler talks of plans for a snowy weekend in Utah over woozy synths in the track’s opening spoken-word segment, which lasts slightly over a minute. When the drums kick in, “Lumberjack” transforms, and Tyler begins to peel off punchlines.

The video for “Lumberjack” is also classic Tyler: He reads old car magazines in bed, raps on top of a stack of suitcases, has his nails done, and gets stuck in a blizzard in this series of strange vignettes.

Tyler’s second single of the year is “Lumberjack,” which follows “Tell Me How,” which was released in March but first debuted in a Coca-Cola ad a month before. He collaborated with Westside Gunn, Freddie Gibbs and the Alchemist, Lil Yachty, and Brent Faiyaz in the meantime, but “Tell Me How” was his first true solo release since 2019.

Tyler, the Creator’s most recent album, Igor, was released in 2019 and won a Grammy. He released two loose singles at the end of the year, “Best Interest” and “Group B.”
