This summer, Ibiza hopes to welcome half of the pre-pandemic tourism numbers.
Spain remains committed to reviving its tourism industry this summer, with tourism minister Reyes Maroto stating that the country’s aim is to attract half the number of visitors they had in the year 2019.
Tens of Thousands of tourists from Germany are currently visiting Ibiza as part of a pilot program to test safe travel and tourism on the island, according to reports.
This happened before Spain and the Balearic Islands opened to tourists for a portion of the summer last year.
Due to the pandemic, the number of foreign visitors to Spain dropped by 80% in 2020, to the lowest level since 1969.
Tourism accounts for 12% of Spain’s GDP, and the country’s government is committed to welcoming tourists by establishing green travel corridors and creating a vaccine passport.
