In the video for “The Melting of the Sun,” St. Vincent embraces trippy Seventies animation vibes

St. Vincent has unveiled the latest music video for “The Melting of the Sun,” a song from her forthcoming album, Daddy’s Home, which will be released on May 14th through Loma Vista.

The animated clip stays firm to St. Vincent’s Seventies aesthetic for Daddy’s Home, right down to a cheeky title card that says the clip is from “Candy’s Music Video Archives” — a nod to Warhol muse Candy Darling. St. Vincent and Bill Benz co-directed the video, and Chris McD produced the old-school animation style that brought the song’s vignettes about women who have been exploited and misused by the entertainment industry to life.

Following “Pay Your Way in Pain,” “The Melting of the Sun” is the second single from Daddy’s Home. Both songs were recently performed on Saturday Night Live by St. Vincent.
