Twenty One Pilots Tease their Upcoming Album “Scaled and Icy and Released Their First Single “Shy Away”

Twenty One Pilots have shared a new song titled “Shy Away,” which will be featured on their forthcoming sixth studio album, Scaled and Icy, which will be released on May 21st through Fueled by Ramen.

On “Shy Away,” the duo embraces a pulsating synth-pop sound with a few alt-rock tricks. Twenty One Pilots perform the song in various abstract, neon-lit sets, at one point appearing alongside duplicate versions of themselves wearing ratty ski masks, in a music video directed by Miles & AJ.

Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun of the band were in Covid-19 lockdown in their respective homes when they composed Scaled and Icy. Joseph wrote and produced the album from his house, while Dun recorded and engineered his drum takes from across the country.

Twenty One Pilots will host their first livestream concert, Twenty One Pilots – Livestream Experience, on the release date of Scaled and Icy. Tickets are on sale now at live.twentyonepilots.com for the show on Friday, May 21st at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Twenty One Pilots released a solo single titled “Level of Concern” last year. Trench, their previous album, was released in 2018.
